Michael Sanders

CMHC Intern, Student Therapist

Michael specializes in nature-based, mindfulness, and trauma-informed therapies. With an extensive background working with youth and families in outdoor settings, he takes a holistic, strength-oriented approach to empower clients on their healing journey.

Michael is a Clinical Mental Health Counseling student pursuing a master’s degree from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. He is passionate about nature-based education, therapies and experiential learning. Before coming to Sage Family Counseling, Michael has had a place in the larger wellness and mental health industries, and has a background working with adolescent youth, young adults and their families in outdoor environments. He is dedicated to making a positive impact for healing in the lives of individuals, couples and families as they navigate the challenges of life.

He completed his bachelor’s degree in the academic study of religion at Arizona State University.

Michael believes in the healing power of nature, the innate intelligence of the body and the inherent goodness and wisdom of each person. This drives his counseling focus working with individuals, couples and families to empower their ideal self and cultivate a meaningful life. His course of study at Naropa University is transpersonal psychology, which attempts to take into account the whole of human experience including spirituality and spiritual experiences. His approach to counseling is strength-oriented, attachment and trauma-informed and Mindfulness-based.

Michael is a husband and father of five. They are his favorite people! Something they love to do together is to take road trips! Michael is an avid martial artist and primitive skills enthusiast. He loves teaching and sharing his art. He enjoys the outdoors; back country traveling, snowboarding and rock climbing.

As an intern, Michael practices under the supervision of Julie Anderson, LCMHC.
