Co-Parenting Counseling

Having Hope After the Divorce

Divorce can be a traumatic process; having a lasting impact on you, your ex, and your children. When something as monumental as an intimate relationship and the forming of a family ends you may experience a sense of loss. You are experiencing the death of your relationship and your family as you know it; Divorce Grief Counseling can help you work through these complex yet powerful emotions.

Co-parenting during and after the pain of separation and divorce is rarely easy and can easily lead to discouragement, bitterness and further complication of an already complicated relationship. Working with your ex in a co-parenting relationship takes courage and deep strength. Choosing to work on effective co-parenting will bring the safety, security, and quality relationships your children need to weather the storm of separation and divorce. Co-parenting comes with many “Do’s and Don’ts” that can be intimidating and don’t take your emotions, your experience, and your needs into account. Navigating all of these factors is complex and delicate; no matter where you are in the co-parenting process there is support available to you. To access this support you may want to seek Professional Co-Parenting Support or Professional Counseling for Divorced Couples.

Moving Towards an Expanded Family

At Sage, we seek to understand where you are, meet you there, and help you work towards a more grounded and rewarding future. In co-parenting therapy our vision is to help you and your ex move from a “blended family” or “divorced family” mentality to an “expanded family” mentality. As mentioned, there are many “Do’s and Don’ts” with co-parenting; we take a “focus on doing what works” approach because it is so easy to get distracted by what didn't work in the past. We will work with you and your ex to learn about and implement effective co-parenting strategies. We will help you with things like boundaries, effective and respectful communication, creating consistency, focusing on the needs of the children, navigating disagreements or conflict, and building a beautiful and functional expanded family.

We are here to support you in learning what this looks and feels like for you and your family. We understand that all families are unique and that there is not a cookie cutter solution. We can help you find a win-win-win for all parties involved. One of the great benefits of the therapy process is that we help you with specific challenges you are facing at the time and also focus on learning from the process so that you can use the skills you develop with us to address future challenges that may arise. We generally work with clients on a short term basis (typically 3-6 months) and help you to feel “on track” and ready to move forward without therapy. Some circumstances require more time due to other complexities. We work with clients as long as it is needful and beneficial. Also once clients wrap up their work with us, we are open to completing follow up sessions, check ups, or additional work in the future if things arise that need further support.

Thank you for your personalized and PERSONAL care. Your guidance helped us navigate a path through the minefield of mental health concerns. When I didn't know what to do, you did. Everything is not "all better" but it is better than it was and steadily improving. From the staff to the counselors, everyone I have interacted with has gone above and beyond to provide support to both the patient and family. This creates a comfortable, professional environment and it is clear that people are the priority. Thank you for being there when we needed you. You are forever a part of our story.

“The professionals at Sage Family Counseling provided me with the tools, skills, and courage to deal with my anxiety and depression at a time when it was difficult to see a way forward. Specifically, I was taught coping skills to help me stay in the moment, learned to set focused, achievable goals that gave me a path forward, received honest feedback about my successes as well as setbacks, and provided with tools that set me on course to becoming the sort of person I wanted to be. I will always be grateful for the care I received and I highly recommend their counselors and services.”

“Me and my family’s lives have been amazingly blessed through Dr. Henline’s counsel. I reached out to him (not previously knowing anything about him or his practice) in September of 2018, desperate for a qualified therapist/Dr. who could help me through an extraordinarily difficult time. He saw me through it and I’m forever grateful for his wisdom, advice, and compassion. I’ve referred others to him as well because I know he’s completely qualified and can handle complex, and challenging issues. I’ve continued to meet with him occasionally for problems that arise and continue to leave empowered.”

“Dr. Henline has had a profound impact on my life. He steadfastly guided me through the process of looking at the issues I needed to resolve and settle in my soul. The resounding conclusion being “It is my life; I need to own it”. Like a great surgeon, Dr. Henline cut away the clutter and helped me focus on the “Now” . . . empowering me with insight, education and understanding to let go of the disabling past and embrace the present with more self-awareness and a determination to be the best me I can be.”

“Branden didn’t solve my problems; he made me aware that I have the power and ability to solve them on my own. I was introduced to new thought and behavior patterns that freed me from a self-imposed prison."

“We are immensely grateful for the therapy that Branden was able to offer my son who was diagnosed with OCD on his mission.  Branden was able to provide sessions virtually since he was out of the country.  This was tricky at times with less than ideal internet connections in Colombia.  However, the few times we lost connection he would use the time to teach me how to help my missionary so we could use the session time efficiently. The tips and techniques provided by Branden offered him resources to cope and find success each week until Covid-19 sent him home.  The mission therapist was able to monitor the medication needed, but Branden's insight was invaluable at helping him manage intrusive thoughts and anxiety.  We are grateful that he was able to provide the support my son needed on his mission.”

“Branden Henline took the time to get to know my husband and I working with us for about a year. He helped us to communicate more effectively with each other and we can now talk more openly without getting angry. It was easy to meet with him on Zoom, fitting it in with ease in our busy schedules.”
