Sonia Roberts

AMFT

Sonia helps individuals and couples explore their sense of self and move toward their aspirational goals.

Sonia Roberts is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Marriage and Family Studies at BYU-Idaho and received her master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Syracuse University.

Sonia has always enjoyed working in the human service field and has a profound connection to the special needs community. Before moving to Utah, she worked one-on-one and in a group setting with the elderly population—teaching physical fitness and neuroplasticity classes at Grand Brook Memory Care Center in Grapevine, Texas. She also spent time with children with cognitive impairments at Therapy and Beyond, and Special Strong in the DFW area.

Sonia is passionate about helping individuals, couples, and families explore their sense of self, identify values, and move towards becoming their aspirational selves. She incorporates a psychodynamic and ACT approach. She spends time helping her clients build awareness, process emotions, and confront challenging parts of themselves. She believes that all behaviors are learned from past experiences and that early childhood conditioning can carry over into adulthood. She loves learning and is committed to creating a safe, open space for each client.

Sonia has completed Level 1 training in the Gottman Method of Couple Therapy and Jennifer Finlayson-Fife’s Clinical Mental Health Professional Training, with a focus on couple and sex therapy.

When Sonia is not in the office, she enjoys spending time with her spouse and stepchildren, weightlifting, hiking, reading, and traveling.

As an associate, Sonia practices under the supervision of Branden Henline, PhD, LMFT.
