Self-Care: Taking Care of You
By Tiffany Henline, LMFT
Self-care is not selfish! It gives the body and mind time to rest, reset, and rejuvenate. Like refueling the engine of your car, self-care helps to refuel your body and mind.
Day to Day Self-Care Options
What do you do each day for self-care? It might be helpful to evaluate your current self-care practices and choose one practice to try this week. Consider these areas of self-care:
- 1. Movement/exercise
- 2. Healthy eating
- 3. Hydration
- 4. Sleep and rest
- 5. Healthy leisure time (hobbies, interests)
- 6. Inner peace/spirituality
- 7. Volunteer work/service
- 8. Maintaining relationships
- 9. Creativity
Find Something that Works for You
Is there something in one of these areas that you would like to add to your daily self-care plan? Maybe you would like to make an effort to drink more water today, take a walk outside, go to bed an hour earlier, or schedule a lunch date with a friend. Self-care looks different for each person. Whatever you choose, be sure to take time for self-care today.
